Dr Velislava Petrova, PhD is a research fellow with UNAIDS and consultant at CEPI (Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations).

Prof. Borja Santos Porras, Executive Director of IE School of Global and Public Affairs. He has led international programmes in Asia, Africa and Latin America.

What is the potential impact of COVID-19 on developing countries, and how we prepare for the future?

H.E. Prof. Ameenah Gurib-Fakim suggested organisations need to think laterally to provide jobs and entrepreneurship for the youth. That candid communication and clear sound bits are crucial to developing trust.

Prof. Borja Santos identified Five economic implications: 1 Reliance on remittances, 2. Reliance on tourism, 3. Huge economic debt, 4. Capital flows have been cut, 5. Congested urban settlement areas.

Dr Velislava Petrova endorsed the need for innovation, highlighting the sense of public responsibility. She recommended blended educational and medical models and provision of essential resources
